Lasse Rouhiainen: «Artificial intelligence is going to democratize education»

The Finnish writer says that curricula are needed for the conversion of adults

Artificial intelligence (AI) will mark the future of humanity, although many of the questions it poses still need to be answered. Lasse Rouhiainen smiles when these doubts arise. Finnish based in Alicante, is an expert in new technologies, videomarketing and digital marketing and has just published 'Artificial intelligence. 101 things that you should know today about our future '(Enienta), essay that tries to put a little light.

- With autonomous vehicles would it be easier to travel through cities?

Yes because an autonomous car knows where another autonomous car is and knows where it has to go. Learn and communicate it to others.

- It would be a great solution.

But I do not know when we're going to have it. In Finland there is a robot bus, but with a very easy route. When they started to try it, it was jokingly said that it was better to walk because it was faster. The same technology can be applied to trucks: going from a warehouse to the outskirts of Madrid to another one that is on the outskirts of Alicante is relatively easy. It is more complicated when you have to put in the cities. These long distances without complications are easy.

- There will be many people who stay out of the workplace due to the irruption of artificial intelligence. Is it worrying?

Yes, but at the same time many jobs that we now do not know are going to be created. We need time to learn and with AI it will be done faster. It is necessary to create an education system for adults as we have for children.

- How can artificial intelligence hurt more?

In social relationships because every time we do more things with the mobile. In countries like the United States or Finland, people go less to the street. Young people have developed a dependence on mobile that, in turn, is growing. In a few years they will do almost everything and the addiction may be greater.

- The countries with more life on the street with friends and family, are we more protected?

I think so. In my country, that of eating with family on Sundays, for example, has been lost.

- There is a lot of talk about ethics and artificial intelligence. How can we teach it?

Taking a critical look and not applying a technology and that's it. To think if the algorithm works and taking into account that ethics is fundamental and in Europe we know it, more than in the United States. People are tired of having companies that use their private data, that sell them. And Spain can contribute a lot.

- In what sense?

There is a big market. Spain must realize the options it has in Latin America. They appreciate that ethics be given more importance here than Americans.

- There are artificial intelligence programs that easily recognize the passengers of an airport.

And it's good, if it's used well to detect terrorists. But we also want to know what happens with that information they have about me. Hence the importance of ethics.

- United Arab Emirates and Denmark have advisors in governments on AI, why do you think this figure is fundamental?

Because you can not imagine a government that does not listen to scientists in this field as it listens to leaders in education or in agriculture.

- Your country, Finland, has the best education system in the world, how can artificial intelligence impact?

It is already changing things. The University of Haaga-Helia, for example, will start giving micro-courses and in two years it will stop calling the university to be called a learning platform. It implies that you can enter and exit, enter and exit.

- Two years is a short time.

Not only that. This university is a science university and what it has done, with two other universities, is to take all job announcements and create an artificial intelligence machine. It informs them what the labor market needs and they compare it with all the courses given at the university. With this you can create a map and you can see what is taught and what is not and what is needed. We have information in time. Artificial intelligence is going to democratize education.

- Is the main benefit of artificial intelligence?

Definitely. We can take education to Africa and create entrepreneurs.

- And the worst?

Automated armament I hope there are solutions for this.
