Coca-Cola studies developing infusions with a cannabis compound

Some of the brand's cola products have struggled to increase sales in recent years due to the growing trend of healthy consumption

Coca-Cola reported Monday that it is studying the use of a key compound in marijuana to make "healthy drinks" at a time when a large number of companies are developing cannabis infusions.

"We have no interest in marijuana or cannabis," Coca-Cola said in a statement. But the company is "closely monitoring the worldwide growth of the non-psychoactive CBD component (cannabidiol) as an ingredient in healthy drinks."

Cannabidiol is a chemical that contains marijuana that does not have the toxic effects of THC, the active compound that causes "euphoria," and is used to treat epilepsy and other diseases. "The environment is evolving rapidly," explains Coca-Cola. «We have not made decisions until now».

The Coca-Cola statement comes amid reports that has held talks to develop drinks with the Canadian Aurora Cannabis. Some of the brand's cola products have struggled to increase sales in recent years due to the growing trend of healthy consumption. On October 17, marijuana will be legal in Canada, after the two houses of Parliament gave the green light to the recreational use of this drug.
